So, who am I?

ABOUT ME
So, who am I? Well to start, I'm a KGH qualified hypnobirthing teacher and teach hypnobirthing antenatal classes in person and online. But how did it all begin?
I did a degree in Psychology in what feels like a lifetime ago, then worked in the world of PR and social media for over 10 years. My interest in helping others and the way in which our minds work wasn't ever far away though, and I volunteered at what was then the charity YouthNet as part of their relationship team, and went on to get a qualification in counselling at Birkbeck University of London.
Fast forward a few years, and it was at the start of my second pregnancy that I discovered hypnobirthing. The techniques, knowledge I learnt and confidence I gained without a doubt led to the positive birth I had, learning to make informed decisions for myself and my baby and trusting in myself. Having had two births, one with and one without hypnobirthing, I have first-hand experience of the impact hypnobirthing can have towards a positive, calm and powerful birth - and trust me, it does!
And that's why I founded Birthing Matters. I want to help as many people as possible to feel supported, educated and confident when it comes to their pregnancy and preparing for birth.
MY APPROACH
From my own experience and working with other parents, a lot of the time we're told that birth is scary, painful and something to just 'get through'.
To me this isn't only misleading but also unfair on parents-to-be. It's these negative preconceptions of fear and anxiety that we work on changing, and instead replace them with a positive, calm and empowering approach to birth, no matter what type of birth you may have.
How? The Birthing Matters course is a complete antenatal education and covers a wide range of topics such as:
-
What hypnobirthing is (and isn't)
-
The physiology of the body during pregnancy and birth
-
The link between your mind and body, and how they work together when it comes to birth (but also every day life!)
-
Breathing and relaxation techniques
-
The importance of the birth partner's role
-
How to overcome any fears and anxiety, and replace these with a positive, confident mindset
-
Understanding your options; from hospital to home births, maternal and medical care
-
Navigating the maternity system, how to make educated, informed choices for you and your baby, and what your birth rights are
-
Tools and techniques you can rely on, no matter the road your birth takes, to maintain a sense of control and calm
The course is for every type of birth, whether you're hoping for a home birth, caesarean section, birth centre birth - you name it. The content we'll cover isn't exclusive to one type of birth either, and is for first or subsequent pregnancies too. It's my job to make sure you feel equipped, informed and reassured when it comes to birth!
I make sure the content is relevant to everyone, and if you'd like to discuss your experience, circumstances or to get more information on what's involved drop me an email and I'd be happy to arrange a call:
